Education Event - October 26 at NetDevOps Days (Tech Members Only)

EDUCATION EVENT - TECH MEMBER ATTENDANCE ONLY

We’ve partnered with NetDevOps Days to host our next NYNOG Education Event for our Technical Members. NetDevOps Days is a one-day, one-track event designed to unite the network automation community for meaningful learning, collaboration, and fun. So, it made a lot of sense to have our NYNOG community involved, adding our evening meetup to this fantastic program . To see the NetDevOps Days program, including getting your ticket, please visit their site. To grab your ticket to the NYNOG event, you must be a Technical Member, and you must register here with your email.

Our NYNOG Speakers:

  • Sergey Katsev of Catchpoint, “Traceroute 3 decades later” – A quick review of traceroute, its history, and the problems it solves, followed by problems with the original and their solutions, plus additional features added to traceroute by Catchpoint (and available to the community!), and interesting use cases for traceroute including “node to node” and “many to one” testing.

  • Vishal Shukla of Aviz Networks, speaking about the Sonic Ecosystem

Our Agenda:

  • 6:00pm - Check-in at NetDevOps Days venue & social networking

  • 6:30pm - NYNOG Program Begins

NYNOG Rooftop Community Event Hosted by Netflix

The next NYNOG event is a Community Event, and we’re headed to Netflix’s rooftop on 19th street. The event takes place on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 6-9PM ET, and we encourage our engineering community to network with one another, including our exhibiting sponsors, and enjoy provided refreshments.

Please note that all registrations are due to approval to maintain the integrity of our community. As a gentle reminder, NYNOG is a technical and business community centered around data centers, internet / data center networks, and related technology. We will regretfully need to decline event admission to those individuals who do not meet this professional or educational profile. For example, if you don’t know what BGP or a cross-connect is, this event is not well-suited for you to attend.

3:25 PM - Presentation 1: Introduction to OpenConfig by Daniel Hertzberg / Arista

OpenConfig is an informal working group of network operators sharing the goal of moving our networks toward a more dynamic, programmable infrastructure by adopting software-defined networking principles such as declarative configuration and model-driven management and operations. In this discussion we will talk about getting started with OpenConfig and streaming telemetry data from OpenConfig devices via grpc.

3:55 PM - 5 Minute Break

4:00 PM - Presentation 2: NetDevOps Survey by Damien Garros / Network to Code

Network Automation has been a hot topic in the network industry for few years and yet we have very little data about the state of “network operations through automation" right now. The goal of the NetDevOps Survey is to collect information to understand how network operators and engineers are using automation to operate their network today. The survey is vendor neutral and is managed as an open source project on Github. All responses are anonymous and all results are public. In October 2019, we collected ~300 responses from all types of networks that gave us some unique insight regarding what network engineers are doing when it comes to network automation, what tools they are using and how they managed their journey to network automation. This was the second edition of the survey so this time we also have data to understand the evolution over time.

4:35 PM - 5 Minute Break

Join us on Thursday, March 14th as we get together for our first meetup of 2019 at Work-Bench

Agenda

6:00 pm - Registration

6:30pm - Welcome and Announcements

6:45pm - 7:15pm - Richard A Steenbergen: Building a Next-Generation Network Infrastructure using EVPN/VXLAN

An exploration of next-generation network architectures and design techniques, built on technologies like EVPN/VXLAN.

7:25pm - 7:55pm - Anthony Miloslavsky: Automated Testing In Network CI/CD Pipelines

As the idea of treating your infrastructure as code (via CI/CD) becomes more and more popular in the networking space, the testing and validation best practices that are present in traditional software development pipelines are often an afterthought or a "nice to have". After some background on why automation principles in networking both are and aren't different from those in software development, we'll touch on the various types of testing that are present in software development today (unit, integration, etc) and how they can be applied to automating your network. The discussion will focus on developing reusable post-change testing with tools like Gitlab and Grafana, and will end with incorporating network simulation into your pipelines to achieve true pre and post-change testing.

8:00pm - 9:00pm - Networking Social
