NYNOG Community,
For over 8 years, we have served the Network Operator community of the NYC Metropolitan Area by producing numerous educational and social events. It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing that the Board of NYNOG has decided to wind down operations. Over the past two years, it has become increasingly apparent that the needs of the community have changed in a post-pandemic world, and that the structure and focus of NYNOG does not adequately reflect those needs. We have seen declining attendance year over year, and the recent membership drive highlighted that a significant number of our previous attendees were not invested in the growth of our community. Further, it’s become increasingly difficult to secure reliable volunteers to help the organization function, and our sponsors expect more from us than we are able to provide without having paid staff to support our organization and events.
We are open to working with other non-profit organizations to hand over any relevant intellectual property, and will work with members to promptly refund annual membership dues. Once the organization is fully wound down, all remaining assets will be distributed to relevant charitable organizations that serve our community.
I personally want to thank each and every one of you for your commitment to NYNOG over the last 8 years, and wish you all continued success in 2024.
Best Regards,
-Dave Temkin, for the NYNOG Board of Directors
